Review: Avatar (2009)

It took a long time for me to get around to writing this review. It actually took a long time for me to get around to watching “Avatar.” By the time I saw it the film had already taken in a “Titanic” rivaling $284,000,000 and had been the talk of film critics, moviegoers, and anyone with even a passing interest in not living under a rock. Everyone had an opinion on the film, and most of those opinions were gushing praises. The special effects! The 3-D! The technical barriers that were being destroyed! With a film like “Avatar” it’s tough to not have elevated expectations, even for those people who were amongst the first into the theater when it opened in mid-December. Reports of extravagant costs and new technology made specifically for the filming made it impossible to enter into any theater, IMAX or otherwise, and not expect to have your eyes blown into the back of your skull by the technical wizardry on display. ┬áSo, does it live up to the hype?
